SRS: how much do you really save?

Compare the Supplementary Retirement Scheme (tax relief on contributions, 50% of withdrawals taxable) with the same net effort in a cash or brokerage account.

Advanced assumptions

Calculated on your device, no data sent. Indicative simulation, not personal advice.

  • Enter at most the official annual SRS contribution cap published by IRAS (it differs for citizens/PRs and foreigners).
  • Only half of each withdrawal is taxable after the statutory retirement age; spreading withdrawals over up to ten years keeps the taxable part low.
  • Singapore does not tax capital gains for individuals, so the last field is usually zero.
  • Contribution cap of the year: IRAS

What this calculator is for

Compare, for the same savings effort, a tax-advantaged account with the other options, up to withdrawal.

How to read the result

The big number is the lead of the best option over the weakest. Each curve shows the net value if you withdrew everything that year.

Assumptions and limits

Tax rates are examples to replace with yours. Stay within the official limits of the year (link below the calculator).

Have the result checked

An adviser goes through these figures with your actual situation: tax, pensions, existing investments.

Frequently asked questions

Is SRS worth it at a low tax bracket?

The lower your marginal rate today, the smaller the relief. With a low bracket and money you may need before retirement age, the penalty on early withdrawal can outweigh the benefit.

SRS or CPF top-up?

Both give tax relief; CPF top-ups earn guaranteed CPF interest but are locked into retirement payouts, SRS can be invested freely. An adviser can compare both for your situation.
