How much should you save each month for your goal?
A goal, a time horizon and what you already have: the calculator works out the monthly savings needed for each investment profile.
What this calculator is for
Work out the monthly savings needed to reach an amount by a given date, taking into account what you already have.
How to read the result
The big number is the monthly contribution. The green curve shows the value of your savings year by year; the gap with the dotted line is what returns add.
Assumptions and limits
Profiles use a constant average return, before tax and fees. Markets vary from year to year: leave a margin, especially over a short horizon.
Have the result checked
An adviser goes through these figures with your actual situation: tax, pensions, existing investments.
Frequently asked questions
Which return should I use?
The three profiles use cautious long-run average return assumptions, not promises. The shorter the horizon, the more sensible the cautious profile.
What if I can't save that much?
Lengthen the horizon, lower the goal or raise the starting amount: the calculator updates on every change. An adviser can also review how your existing savings are invested.
